This grade 3 multiply test answer key gives the full solution and the scoring guide for each of the 9 test questions on multiplying by multiples of 10.
Use this key to score the test out of 20 points. Each solution shows the work a student should write, and the scoring note explains how to give partial credit when a student shows correct steps but makes a small slip.
Grade 3 Multiply Test Answer Key: questions 1–5
Question 1: Quick products (2 points)
- \(3 \times 6 = 18\), so \(3 \times 60 = 180\). 180
- \(7 \times 4 = 28\), so \(7 \times 40 = 280\). 280
Scoring: 1 point for each correct product.
Question 2: Groups of tens (2 points)
There are 5 boxes with 4 tens in each. \(5 \times 40 = 200\), because \(5 \times 4 = 20\) tens is 200.
200
Scoring: 1 point for the sentence \(5 \times 40\), 1 point for 200.
Question 3: Missing factors (2 points)
- 640 is 64 tens and \(8 \times 8 = 64\). 80
- 270 is 27 tens and \(9 \times 3 = 27\). 9
Scoring: 1 point for each correct missing number.
Question 4: Jumps of 20 (2 points)
There are 6 jumps of 20. \(6 \times 20 = 120\).
120
Scoring: 1 point for \(6 \times 20\), 1 point for 120.
Question 5: Comparing (2 points)
- \(6 \times 50 = 300\) and \(5 \times 60 = 300\). =
- \(9 \times 30 = 270\) and \(8 \times 40 = 320\). <
Scoring: 1 point for each correct comparison.
Grade 3 Multiply Test Answer Key: questions 6–9
Question 6: Explaining a product (2 points)
- \(7 \times 5 = 35\). 35
- 50 is 5 tens, so 7 groups of 5 tens is 35 tens. 35 tens is 350. 350
Scoring: 1 point for 35, 1 point for an explanation that uses tens and gives 350.
Question 7: Tens grid (2 points)
There are \(3 \times 8 = 24\) squares worth 10 each. 24 tens is 240.
\(3 \times 80 = 240\)
Scoring: 1 point for the sentence \(3 \times 80\), 1 point for 240.
Question 8: School store (3 points)
- \(7 \times 2 = 14\) tens, so \(7 \times 20 = 140\). 140 erasers
- \(4 \times 6 = 24\) tens, so \(4 \times 60 = 240\). 240 pencils
- \(140 + 240 = 380\). 380 items
Scoring: 1 point for each part.
Question 9: Find the mistake (3 points)
- Jamal found \(8 \times 6 = 48\) but forgot that 60 is 6 tens, not 6 ones. The 48 is 48 tens.
- \(8 \times 60 = 480\). 480
- 60 is 6 tens. 8 groups of 6 tens is 48 tens. 48 tens is 480.
Scoring: 1 point for naming the missing tens, 1 point for 480, 1 point for the tens explanation.
