This grade 4 measurement test answer key gives the full solution and the scoring guide for each of the 9 test questions on measurement conversions and word problems.
Use this answer key to score the measurement test out of 20 points. Each solution shows the conversion fact, the calculation, and the scoring guide, so a teacher or parent can award partial credit fairly.
Grade 4 Measurement Test Answer Key: questions 1–5
Question 1: Convert units (2 points)
a) \(6 \times 1{,}000 = 6{,}000\) meters.
b) \(9 \times 16 = 144\) ounces.
6,000 m; 144 oz
Scoring: 1 point for each correct conversion with the right unit.
Question 2: Kilograms and grams table (2 points)
Multiply each number of kilograms by 1,000.
3,000 g; 7,000 g; 12,000 g; the multiplier is 1,000.
Scoring: 1 point for all three grams values correct; 1 point for stating 1,000.
Question 3: Compare measurements (2 points)
a) \(4\text{ m} = 400\text{ cm}\), and \(400 > 380\). So \(4\text{ m} > 380\text{ cm}\).
b) \(3\text{ hr} = 180\text{ min}\), and 180 is less than 200. So \(3\text{ hr} < 200\text{ min}\).
> ; <
Scoring: 1 point for each correct symbol; the conversion shows why.
Question 4: Mixed units (2 points)
a) \(5 \times 1{,}000 = 5{,}000;\ 5{,}000 + 60 = 5{,}060\) m.
b) \(3 \times 60 = 180;\ 180 + 15 = 195\) sec.
5,060 m; 195 sec
Scoring: 1 point each. Give no point if the extra part is left out (for example 5,000 m).
Question 5: Practice time (2 points)
a) From 3:50 to 4:00 is 10 minutes. From 4:00 to 4:35 is 35 minutes. \(10 + 35 = 45\) minutes.
b) 5:20 + 45 min: 5:20 to 6:00 is 40 minutes, and 5 more minutes make 6:05.
45 minutes; 6:05
Scoring: 1 point for 45 minutes; 1 point for 6:05.
Grade 4 Measurement Test Answer Key: questions 6–9
Question 6: Water in a jug (3 points)
a) The level is at 1,500 mL.
b) \(2\text{ L} = 2{,}000\text{ mL}\). \(2{,}000 – 1{,}500 = 500\).
c) \(1{,}500 : 250 = 6\).
1,500 mL; 500 mL; 6 glasses
Scoring: 1 point for each part.
Question 7: Grapes and cheese (3 points)
a) \(4 \times \$3 = \$12\).
b) Cheese: \(2 \times \$5 = \$10\). Total: \(\$12 + \$10 = \$22\).
c) \(\$30 – \$22 = \$8\).
$12; $22; $8
Scoring: 1 point for each part; follow-through credit if an earlier part is wrong but the later method is correct.
Question 8: Rope pieces (2 points)
a) \(3 \times 100 = 300\text{ cm}\).
b) \(300 : 50 = 6\).
300 cm; 6 pieces
Scoring: 1 point for each part.
Question 9: Package masses (2 points)
a) \(2{,}000 + 750 = 2{,}750 ext{ g}\) and \(1{,}000 + 450 = 1{,}450 ext{ g}\). Total: \(2{,}750 + 1{,}450 = 4{,}200 ext{ g}\).
b) \(4{,}200 = 4{,}000 + 200\), so 4 kg 200 g.
4,200 g; 4 kg 200 g
Scoring: 1 point for each part.
