Scaled Graphs and Line Plots: Grade 3 Math Test Answer Key – PDF Download

Scaled Graphs and Line Plots – Grade 3 math test answer key

This grade 3 graphs test answer key gives the full solution and the scoring guide for each of the 8 test questions on scaled graphs and line plots.

Use this key to score the test. Each answer shows one correct way to solve the problem, and the scoring note says how points are given. Other correct methods earn full credit, and a line plot with equal spacing between marks is acceptable.

Grade 3 Graphs Test Answer Key: questions 1–5

Question 1: Pumpkin sales (3 points)

    1. Tuesday has 7 circles: \(7 \times 5 = 35\). 35 pumpkins.
    2. Wednesday has 3 circles, 15 pumpkins. \(35 – 15 = 20\). 20 more pumpkins.
    3. \(20 + 35 + 15 + 25 = 95\). 95 pumpkins.

Scoring: 1 point for each correct part.

Question 2: Favorite subjects (3 points)

    1. The Science bar stops on the line labeled 20. 20 students.
    2. PE is 40 and Reading is 25. \(40 – 25 = 15\). 15 more students.
    3. \(15 + 35 + 25 + 20 + 40 = 135\). 135 students.

Scoring: 1 point for each correct part.

Question 3: Two lengths (2 points)

    1. The ribbon ends 1 fourth after the 2 mark: \(2\frac{1}{4}\) inches.
    2. The stick ends at the half mark after 5: \(5\frac{1}{2}\) inches.
    Ribbon0123in.
The ribbon ends at 2 and 1/4 inches.

Scoring: 1 point for each correct length with units. Accept 2 1/4 and 5 1/2 written as improper fractions.

Question 4: Make a line plot (2 points)

    Count each length: \(3\frac{1}{4}\) has 1, \(3\frac{1}{2}\) has 3, \(3\frac{3}{4}\) has 2, 4 has 1, and \(4\frac{1}{4}\) has 1. That makes 8 Xs.

    Lengths of Shells33 1/43 1/23 3/444 1/44 1/2Length (inches)
A line plot with 8 Xs.

Scoring: 1 point for a number line marked correctly in fourths with a label, 1 point for all 8 Xs in the right places.

Question 5: Plant heights (3 points)

    1. There are 3 Xs above \(2\frac{3}{4}\). 3 plants.
    2. Above \(3\frac{1}{4}\) there is 1 X and above \(3\frac{1}{2}\) there is 1 X: \(1 + 1 = 2\). 2 plants.
    3. The tallest stack is above \(2\frac{3}{4}\). \(2\frac{3}{4}\) inches.

Scoring: 1 point for each correct part.

Grade 3 Graphs Test Answer Key: questions 6–8

Question 6: Sticker circles (2 points)

    Sofia: \(3 \times 8 = 24\) and half of 8 is 4, so \(24 + 4 = 28\). Liam: \(5 \times 8 = 40\). \(40 – 28 = 12\). Liam has 12 more stickers.

Scoring: 1 point for finding Sofia’s 28 stickers, 1 point for the difference 12.

Question 7: Pet counts (2 points)

    1. \(15 + 25 + 10 = 50\). 50 pets.
    2. \(25 – 10 = 15\). 15 fewer birds.

Scoring: 1 point for each correct part.

Question 8: Graph squares (3 points)

    1. \(9 \times 5 = 45\). 45 votes.
    2. \(30 : 5 = 6\). 6 squares.
    3. Tacos: \(7 \times 5 = 35\). \(45 – 35 = 10\). 10 more votes.

Scoring: 1 point for each correct part.
