Remember:
- Percent change \(=\frac{\text{new}-\text{original}}{\text{original}}\times 100\%\); always divide by the original.
- A \(p\%\) increase multiplies by \(1+\frac{p}{100}\); a \(p\%\) decrease multiplies by \(1-\frac{p}{100}\).
- To find the original amount, divide the new amount by the multiplier.
- Percent error \(=\frac{|\text{measured}-\text{actual}|}{\text{actual}}\times 100\%\) and is never negative.
- A percent increase can be larger than \(100\%\); a percent decrease can never exceed \(100\%\).
