Grade 4 Rounding Worksheet Answer Key: problems 1–5
Problem 1: Nearest ten on a number line
63 is between 60 and 70. The halfway mark is 65. Since 63 is less than 65, it is closer to 60.
63 rounds to 60.
Problem 2: Halfway rounds up
The tens digit is 8. The digit to its right is 5, so round up. The 8 becomes 9. 85 is exactly halfway between 80 and 90, and halfway numbers round up.
90
Problem 3: Round to the nearest ten
The tens digit is 8. The digit to its right is 2, which is 4 or less, so the 8 stays. The ones digit becomes 0.
480
Problem 4: Nearest hundred
The hundreds digit is 4. The digit to its right is 8, which is 5 or more, so the 4 becomes 5. The tens and ones become zeros.
482 rounds to 500.
Problem 5: Hundreds in a four-digit number
The hundreds digit is 6. The digit to its right is 4, so the 6 stays. The tens and ones become zeros.
3,600
Grade 4 Rounding Worksheet Answer Key: problems 6–10
Problem 6: Nearest thousand
The thousands digit is 3. The digit to its right is 6, which is 5 or more, so the 3 becomes 4. The hundreds, tens, and ones become zeros.
3,649 rounds to 4,000.
Problem 7: Exactly halfway
The thousands digit is 7. The digit to its right is 5, so round up. 7,500 is halfway between 7,000 and 8,000, and halfway rounds up.
8,000
Problem 8: Nearest ten thousand
The ten thousands digit is 2. The digit to its right is 5, so the 2 becomes 3. Every digit after it becomes 0.
30,000
Problem 9: Thousands in a five-digit number
The thousands digit is 8. The digit to its right is 2, so the 8 stays. The hundreds, tens, and ones become 0.
48,000
Problem 10: A 9 that stays
The hundreds digit is 8. The digit to its right is 6, so the 8 becomes 9. The tens and ones become 0.
99,900
Grade 4 Rounding Worksheet Answer Key: problems 11–15
Problem 11: Carry across places
The hundreds digit is 9. The digit to its right is 5, so round up. \(9 + 1 = 10\), so write 0 and carry 1. The carry moves through every 9 to the left: 99,900 plus 100 is 100,000.
100,000
Problem 12: Nearest hundred thousand
The hundred thousands digit is 6. The digit to its right is 4, so the 6 stays. All the digits to the right become zeros.
600,000
Problem 13: Round up into the next ten thousand

Problem 14: One number, every place
For each place, look at the digit to its right.
Answers: 372,470; 372,500; 372,000; 370,000; 400,000.
