Arc Length, Sector Area and Radians – Geometry math worksheet answer key

Every solution shows the fraction of the circle, the whole circumference or area, and the final answer in bold with units. Compare each step with your own work, and check that arc lengths are in units of length and areas in square units.

    GeometryCommon Core: G-C.B.5

Problem 1: Fraction of a circle

    Fraction = angle \(: 360^{\circ}\): \(\frac{150}{360}=\frac{5}{12}\).

    \(\frac{5}{12}\) of the circumference

    Problem 2: Quarter-circle arc

    Fraction of the circle: \(\frac{90}{360}=\frac{1}{4}\).

    Circumference: \(2\pi r=2\pi(14)=28\pi\text{ yd}\).

    Arc length: \(\frac{1}{4}\cdot28\pi=7\pi\text{ yd}\approx 21.99\text{ yd}\).

    Arc length = \(7\pi\text{ yd}\approx 21.99\text{ yd}\)

Problem 3: Arc length of a sector

    12 ft75°5π ≈ 15.71 ft

    Fraction of the circle: \(\frac{75}{360}=\frac{5}{24}\).

    Circumference: \(2\pi r=2\pi(12)=24\pi\text{ ft}\).

    Arc length: \(\frac{5}{24}\cdot24\pi=5\pi\text{ ft}\approx 15.71\text{ ft}\).

    Arc length = \(5\pi\text{ ft}\approx 15.71\text{ ft}\)

Problem 4: Arc with an obtuse angle

    Fraction of the circle: \(\frac{135}{360}=\frac{3}{8}\).

    \(\theta=90^{\circ}\)

Problem 8: Radius from arc length

    Fraction: \(\frac{72}{360}=\frac{1}{5}\). So \(\frac{1}{5}\cdot 2\pi r=6\pi\).

    Multiply both sides by 5: \(2\pi r=30\pi\). Divide by \(2\pi\): \(r=15\).

    Check: \(\frac{1}{5}\cdot 2\pi(15)=6\pi\). ✓

    \(r=15\text{ cm}\)

Problem 9: Radius from sector area

    \(\frac{5\pi}{6}\) radians

Problem 14: Reflex angle in radians
