This grade 2 data test answer key gives the full solution and the scoring guide for each of the 8 test questions on picture graphs, bar graphs and line plots.
This answer key gives the worked solution and the scoring guide for the 8-question graphs test. Award one point for each correct part unless the guide says otherwise. If a student has the right number but forgets the unit, take off one point at most. Total: 20 points.
Grade 2 Data Test Answer Key: questions 1–5
Question 1: Measure the ribbon (2 points)
- The ribbon ends at the 5 mark. It is 5 inches long.
- \(5 – 3 = 2\). The first ribbon is 2 inches longer.
Scoring: 1 point for each part. Part a needs the unit.
Question 2: Read a line plot (3 points)
- There are 4 X marks above 4. 4 cars.
- Longest: 6. Shortest: 2. \(6 – 2 = 4\). 4 inches.
- Shorter than 4 means 2 or 3 inches: \(1 + 3 = 4\). 4 cars.
Scoring: 1 point for each correct part. Accept an answer without the word cars.
Question 3: Make a line plot (2 points)
Draw 1 X at 3, 2 X marks at 4, 3 X marks at 5, and 1 X at 6.
Check: \(1 + 2 + 3 + 1 = 7\) leaves.
Scoring: 2 points for all 7 X marks in the right places. 1 point if 1 or 2 X marks are wrong or missing. 0 points if more than 2 are wrong.
Question 4: Read a picture graph (3 points)
- Soccer has 6 circles, the most. Soccer.
- \(4 + 5 = 9\). 9 students.
- \(6 – 3 = 3\). 3 more students.
Scoring: 1 point for each correct part.
Question 5: Read a bar graph (3 points)
- The Dog bar reaches 6. 6 dogs.
- Cats: 8. Dogs: 6. \(8 + 6 = 14\). 14 pets.
- Cats: 8. Birds: 2. \(8 – 2 = 6\). 6 fewer birds.
Scoring: 1 point for each correct part.
Grade 2 Data Test Answer Key: questions 6–8
Question 6: Make a bar graph (3 points)
Draw the Reading bar up to 8, Drawing up to 5, Music up to 6, and Games up to 4.
Scoring: 1 point for each pair of correct bars: 1 point for Reading and Drawing, 1 point for Music and Games, and 1 point for neat bars that start at 0 and match the scale.
Question 7: Put together and compare (2 points)
- \(8 + 6 = 14\). 14 students.
- \(8 – 4 = 4\). 4 more students.
Scoring: 1 point for each correct part.
Question 8: Take apart (2 points)
- Apples and grapes: \(7 + 5 = 12\). Take apart: \(16 – 12 = 4\). 4 students.
- Apples 7, grapes 5, bananas 4. Apples.
Scoring: 1 point for each correct part. In part a, accept any correct method.
