This grade 2 arrays test answer key gives the full solution and the scoring guide for each of the 9 test questions on arrays and equal groups.
This answer key shows full solutions and a scoring guide for each of the 9 questions. The test totals 20 points. Give credit when a student adds columns instead of rows, as long as the equation matches the array.
Grade 2 Arrays Test Answer Key: questions 1–5
Question 1: Rows and columns (2 points)
(a) The array has 3 rows and 5 columns.
(b) \(5+5+5=15\). There are 15 dots.
Scoring: 1 point for both numbers correct in part (a). 1 point for the total 15 in part (b).
Question 2: Repeated addition (2 points)
(a) 4 rows of 2: \(2+2+2+2=8\).
(b) There are 8 dots.
Scoring: 1 point for a correct repeated addition equation with four addends of 2. 1 point for the total 8.
Question 3: Column equation (2 points)
(a) The array has 4 columns with 3 dots in each column: \(3+3+3+3=12\).
(b) There are 12 dots.
Scoring: 1 point for an equation with four addends of 3. 1 point for the total 12.
Question 4: Ticket booth seats (2 points)
(a) \(4+4+4+4+4=20\).
(b) The section has 20 seats.
Scoring: 1 point for an equation with five addends of 4. 1 point for the total 20.
Question 5: Draw an array (2 points)
(a) The array has 4 rows with 3 dots in each row (see the picture).
(b) \(3+3+3+3=12\). The total is 12.
Scoring: 1 point for an array with 4 equal rows and 3 columns. 1 point for the equation with four addends of 3 and the total 12.
Grade 2 Arrays Test Answer Key: questions 6–9
Question 6: Same total (2 points)
(a) Array A has 2 rows of 5: \(5+5=10\). Array B has 5 rows of 2: \(2+2+2+2+2=10\).
(b) Yes. Both totals are 10.
Scoring: 1 point for both equations correct. 1 point for saying the totals are the same (10) with a reason.
Question 7: Missing rows (2 points)
Add 3 until the total is 15: \(3+3=6\), \(6+3=9\), \(9+3=12\), \(12+3=15\). That is 5 threes: \(3+3+3+3+3=15\).
The array has 5 rows.
Scoring: 1 point for work that shows repeated addition of 3 reaching 15. 1 point for the answer 5.
Question 8: Window wall (3 points)
(a) \(5+5+5+5=20\). The wall has 20 windows.
(b) \(20-6=14\). 14 windows have lights off.
(c) The second wall has \(5+5+5=15\) windows. \(20-15=5\). The first wall has 5 more windows.
Scoring: 1 point for each correct answer: 20, 14, and 5. Part (b) and part (c) earn the point if the work correctly uses the student’s answer to part (a) or the correct total for the second wall.
Question 9: Muffin pans (3 points)
(a) Pan A: \(4+4+4=12\). Pan B: \(5+5=10\).
(b) Pan A has 12 muffins. Pan B has 10 muffins.
(c) \(12-10=2\). Pan A has 2 more muffins.
Scoring: 1 point for both equations. 1 point for both totals (12 and 10). 1 point for naming Pan A and the difference 2.
