This grade 2 numbers test answer key gives the full solution and the scoring guide for each of the 9 test questions on place value to 1,000.
This answer key gives a worked solution and a scoring guide for each question. The test is worth 20 points. Award part points only when the work or the answer for that part is correct, and read the scoring note for each question.
Grade 2 Numbers Test Answer Key: questions 1–5
Question 1: Read the blocks (2 points)
- 3 flats, 2 rods, 7 cubes: 327
- \(300 + 20 + 7\)
Scoring: 1 point for 327, 1 point for 300 + 20 + 7.
Question 2: Number names (2 points)
- six hundred eighteen
- three hundred forty
Scoring: 1 point for each correct number name. Take off the point if a hundred, ten, or one word is missing; do not take off for a missing hyphen.
Question 3: Words to digits (2 points)
- 902
- 530
Scoring: 1 point for each correct number. A missing zero is incorrect.
Question 4: Add the parts (2 points)
- \(800 + 20 + 6\) = 826
- \(400 + 7\) = 407. The tens digit is 0.
Scoring: 1 point for each correct number.
Question 5: Value of a digit (2 points)
- The 7 is in the tens place: 70.
- The 5 is in the hundreds place: 500.
Scoring: 1 point for each correct value. Give no point for just the digit (7 or 5).
Grade 2 Numbers Test Answer Key: questions 6–9
Question 6: Place value chart (3 points)
- 503
- five hundred three
- 0. There are no tens, so the 0 is worth 0 and holds the tens place.
Scoring: 1 point for each part. For part c, the answer 0 must be given.
Question 7: Ten tens (2 points)
- 10 tens make 1 hundred.
- 400 is 4 hundreds. Each hundred is 10 tens, so \(4 imes 10 = 40\). Answer: 40 tens.
Scoring: 1 point for each correct answer.
Question 8: Bead boxes (3 points)
- 4 boxes = 400, 7 bags = 70, 5 loose = 5. Total: 475 beads
- four hundred seventy-five
- \(400 + 70 + 5\)
Scoring: 1 point for each part. Part b and part c can earn the point from a correct part a.
Question 9: Find the error (2 points)
In 670, the 7 is in the tens place, so it is worth 70. Six hundred seven has no tens, so the tens place needs a 0 and the 7 belongs in the ones place.
\(600 + 0 + 7\): the correct number is 607.
Scoring: 1 point for explaining that the 7 is in the wrong place (tens instead of ones) or that a zero is needed in the tens place; 1 point for 607.
