    Problem 2: Nickels and pennies

    Count the nickels: 5, 10, 15. Then add the pennies: 16, 17, 18, 19. Check: \(15 + 4 = 19\).

    5¢5¢5¢10¢5¢15¢1¢16¢1¢17¢1¢18¢1¢19¢
    Running totals.

    The total is 19¢.

    Problem 3: Dimes and pennies

    Skip count the dimes: 10, 20, 30, 40. Add the pennies: 41, 42. Check: \(40 + 2 = 42\).

    The total is 42¢.

    Problem 4: Counting quarters

    Skip count by 25: 25, 50, 75. Check: \(25 + 25 + 25 = 75\).

    The total is 75¢.

    Problem 5: Mixed coins

    Say: 25, 35, 45, 50, 51, 52, 53. Check: \(25 + 10 + 10 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 53\).

    25¢25¢10¢35¢10¢45¢5¢50¢1¢51¢1¢52¢1¢53¢
    Running totals.

    The total is 53¢.

Grade 2 Money Worksheet Answer Key: problems 6–10

    Problem 6: More mixed coins

    Quarters: 25, 50. Dime: 60. Nickels: 65, 70. Pennies: 71, 72, 73, 74. Check: \(50 + 10 + 10 + 4 = 74\).

    The total is 74¢.

    Problem 7: Bills and coins

    Two bills are \(\$2.00\). Three quarters are 75¢. Together: \(\$2.00 + 75\) cents \(= \$2.75\).

    $1$1.00$1$2.0025¢$2.2525¢$2.5025¢$2.75
    Running totals.

    The total is $2.75.

    Problem 8: Dollar sign

    1. 3 dollars and 25 cents is \(\$3.25\).
    2. 5 cents needs two digits, so it is 05: \(\$1.05\).
    3. No cents, so write two zeros: \(\$6.00\).

    Problem 9: Cents and dollars

    1. \(\$0.45\) is 45¢.
    2. \(\$0.07\) is 7¢.
    3. \(\$0.90\) is 90¢.

Problem 10: Which is worth more

    Group A: 25, 50, so it is 50¢. Group B: 10, 20, 30, 40, so it is 40¢. Since \(50 > 40\), Group A is worth more. \(50 – 40 = 10\).

Group A is worth 10¢ more.

Grade 2 Money Worksheet Answer Key: problems 11–15

    Problem 11: Fewest coins

Start with the biggest coin that fits: a quarter (25¢). Left: \(37 – 25 = 12\). A dime fits (10¢). Left: 2. Use two pennies.

    25¢25¢10¢35¢1¢36¢1¢37¢
    Running totals: 25, 35, 36, 37.

Use 1 quarter, 1 dime, and 2 pennies (4 coins).

Problem 12: Two ways to make 65 cents

    Way 1: \(25 + 25 + 10 + 5 = 65\), which is 2 quarters, 1 dime, and 1 nickel.

    25¢25¢10¢5¢
    Way 1.

    Way 2: \(10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 5 = 65\), which is 6 dimes and 1 nickel.

    10¢10¢10¢10¢10¢10¢5¢
    Way 2.

Other correct answers are possible. Any set of coins worth 65¢ is correct.

    Problem 13: Enough money

    Count: 25, 50, 55. Maya has 55¢. The sticker costs 60¢. Since \(55 < 60\), Maya does not have enough. She needs \(60 – 55 = 5\) more cents.

    No. Maya needs 5¢ more.

Problem 14: Find the missing coins

    Jamal has 50¢. He needs \(80 – 50 = 30\) more cents. Three dimes make 30¢.

    25¢25¢25¢50¢10¢60¢10¢70¢10¢80¢
    Two quarters and three dimes: 50, 60, 70, 80.

Jamal can add 3 dimes. Other answers, like 1 quarter and 1 nickel, also work.

    Problem 15: Add two prices

    Add the prices: \(35 + 20 = 55\). Check by counting on: 35, 45, 55.

    Sofia pays 55¢.

Grade 2 Money Worksheet Answer Key: problems 16–20

Problem 16: How much is left

    Subtract: \(90 – 45 = 45\). Check: \(45 + 45 = 90\).

    Ethan has 45¢ left.

Problem 17: Change from a dollar

    A dollar is 100¢. Subtract: \(100 – 64 = 36\). Check: \(64 + 36 = 100\).

    Priya gets 36¢ in change.

    Problem 18: Counting bills

    Start with the five: 5. Then count on by ones: 6, 7, 8, 9. Check: \(5 + 4 = 9\).

    $5$5.00$1$6.00$1$7.00$1$8.00$1$9.00
    Running totals in dollars.

    Diego has $9.00.

    Problem 19: Bake sale

    Muffins: 2, 4, 6, so 3 muffins cost $6. Juices: 1, 2, so 2 juices cost $2. Total: \(6 + 2 = 8\).

    Aisha spends $8.

    Problem 20: Who has more

    Liam: 25, 50, 75, so he has 75¢. Mei: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, so she has 70¢.

    25¢25¢25¢
    Liam: 75¢.
    10¢10¢10¢10¢10¢10¢10¢
    Mei: 70¢.

    Since \(75 > 70\), Liam has more. \(75 – 70 = 5\).

    Liam has 5¢ more.

Grade 2 Money Worksheet Answer Key: problems 21–24

Noah needs 25¢ more, which is one quarter.

    Problem 22: Piggy bank

    Dimes: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50. Nickels: 55, 60, 65, 70. Pennies: 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 76. So the bank has 76¢. Add the quarter: \(76 + 25 = 101\).

Diego has 101¢, which is \(\$1.01\).

    Problem 23: Farmers market

    Add the prices: \(3 + 2 + 4 = 9\). Subtract from $10: \(10 – 9 = 1\).

    Paid: $10Spent: $9?
Mei spends $9 and gets the rest back.

    Mei gets $1 in change.

    Problem 24: Birthday money

    She spends \(4 + 3 = 7\) dollars. She has \(10 – 7 = 3\) dollars left. Since \(3 < 4\), she cannot buy the sticker book.
