Problem 2: Zero rods in the middle

There are 5 flats, no rods, and 3 cubes. The tens place holds a zero.

    \(500 + 0 + 3\) = 503.

    Hundreds5Tens0Ones3
The zero holds the tens place.

    Answer: 503.

Problem 3: Flats and rods, no cubes

There are 2 flats, 7 rods, and no cubes.

    \(200 + 70 + 0\) = 270.

    Answer: 270.

    1. The hundreds digit is 8.
    2. The tens digit is 4.
    3. The ones digit is 7.

Problem 5: Value of a digit

5 is in the hundreds place, 8 is in the tens place, and 2 is in the ones place.

    3. The 2 is worth 2.

Grade 2 Numbers Worksheet Answer Key: problems 6–10

Problem 6: Same digit, new value

Look at the place of the 5.

    1. In 523, the 5 is in the hundreds place: 500.
    2. In 352, the 5 is in the tens place: 50.
    3. In 235, the 5 is in the ones place: 5.

    Problem 7: Hundreds and tens

One hundred is made of ten tens.

    1. 1 hundred = 10 tens.
    2. 5 hundreds is 5 flats of 100, so the number is 500.
    3. 700 is 7 flats of 100, so it is 7 hundreds.

    Problem 8: Trade the tens

Every 10 tens can be traded for 1 hundred.

    1. 10 tens = 1 hundred.

    Problem 9: Expanded to standard

Add the values of the places.

    1. \(600 + 50 + 9\) = 659
    2. \(300 + 7\) = 307. There are no tens, so the tens digit is 0.
    3. \(800 + 40\) = 840. There are no ones, so the ones digit is 0.

    Problem 10: Standard to expanded

Write the value of each digit that is not zero.

    1. 324 = \(300 + 20 + 4\)
    2. 760 = \(700 + 60\)
    3. 905 = \(900 + 5\)
