Comparing Two-Digit Numbers: Grade 1 Math Test Answer Key – PDF Download

Comparing Two-Digit Numbers – Grade 1 math test answer key

This grade 1 comparing test answer key gives the full solution and the scoring guide for each of the 8 test questions on comparing two-digit numbers.

This key gives the answer and a scoring guide for each question of the comparing numbers test. The test is worth 20 points. Give partial credit as shown, and watch for children who compare the ones digits before the tens digits.

    Grade 1Common Core: 1.NBT.B.3

Grade 1 Comparing Test Answer Key: questions 1–5

Question 1: Compare the blocks (2 points)

    a) A: 4 tens and 2 ones is 42. B: 4 tens and 7 ones is 47.

    b) The tens are the same: 4 tens. Now compare the ones: 2 and 7. 2 ones is less than 7 ones. \(42 < 47\). The symbol is <.

    AB<
    42 is less than 47.

Scoring: 1 point for both numbers. 1 point for the correct symbol.

Question 2: Write the symbol (3 points)

    a) Compare the tens first: 2 tens and 8 tens. 2 tens is less than 8 tens. \(28 < 82\).

    b) \(65 = 65\).

    c) Compare the tens first: 9 tens and 1 tens. 9 tens is more than 1 tens. \(91 > 19\).

Scoring: 1 point for each correct symbol.

Question 3: Greater and less (2 points)

    a) Compare the tens first: 5 tens and 7 tens. 5 tens is less than 7 tens. The greater number is 75.

    b) The tens are the same: 3 tens. Now compare the ones: 3 and 8. 3 ones is less than 8 ones. The lesser number is 33.

Scoring: 1 point for each part.

Question 4: Number line (3 points)

    a) Point A is at 62.

    b) Point B is at 67.

    c) \(62 < 67\). B is to the right of A.

    6061626364656667686970AB
    62 is left of 67.

Scoring: 1 point for each part.

Question 5: Tens and ones (2 points)

    5 tens and 4 ones is 54. 4 tens and 9 ones is 49.

Compare the tens first: 5 tens and 4 tens. 5 tens is more than 4 tens. \(54 > 49\). The symbol is >.

Scoring: 1 point for writing 54 and 49. 1 point for the correct symbol.

Grade 1 Comparing Test Answer Key: questions 6–8

Question 6: Order the numbers (3 points)

The tens are 5, 2 and 5. So 25 is the least. 52 and 55 have the same tens. The ones are 2 and 5, so 52 is less than 55.

    The order is 25, 52, 55.

Scoring: 3 points for the correct order. 2 points if two numbers are swapped. 1 point if 25 is first but the other two are swapped.

Question 7: Bead collections (2 points)

Compare the tens first: 4 tens and 6 tens. 4 tens is less than 6 tens.

    \(46 < 64\). Aisha has fewer beads.

Scoring: 1 point for the symbol comparison. 1 point for naming Aisha.

Question 8: Fix the mistake (3 points)

    a) No, Noah is not correct.

    b) 38 has 3 tens. 41 has 4 tens. 3 tens is less than 4 tens, so 38 is less than 41.

    c) \(38 < 41\).

Scoring: 1 point for each part.
