The problem: fast arithmetic slips away without practice

Many students understand a method but still count on their fingers in Grade 6, and that slows down every later chapter. Mental math is a habit, and habits grow from short, regular sessions rather than long weekend marathons.

Calcul Mental gives a child a routine that is easy to keep: open the app, choose a skill, answer 10 questions, close it. The questions get harder inside each session, so the child moves forward without feeling lost.

What is inside the mental math practice app

  • 76 skills such as complements to 10, doubles and halves, times tables, decimals, fractions, percentages, order of operations and relative numbers
  • A separate path for each grade, following classroom order
  • Training mode: 10 questions on one skill, getting harder
  • Against the clock: as many right answers as possible in 60 seconds
  • Survival: three lives, with rising difficulty
  • Daily challenge: 15 questions, the same for every player that day
  • Stars, experience points, 15 ranks, 40 badges, personal records and a day streak

After a wrong answer, the app shows the correct answer and a mental math trick, such as going through the next ten, so the child learns a method as well as a result.

Which families will use it

Parents of children in Grade 2 (CE1) to Grade 5 (CM2) can use the early paths for tables and number bonds. Students in Grade 6 (6ème) and Grade 7 (5ème) can work on decimals, percentages, order of operations and relative numbers before they appear in a pre-algebra course.

Teachers can suggest a skill as short homework. Because each session ends with a score and stars, it is easy to see progress from one day to the next.

Starting your first session

A typical week might look like this: Monday, a training round on doubles and halves; Tuesday, the 60-second mode to test speed; Wednesday, a skill that felt shaky last time; Thursday, the daily challenge; Friday, whatever skill you like. The day streak counter makes it tempting not to skip a day, and the personal records give a quick sense of progress that parents can talk about at dinner.

  1. Install Calcul Mental on your Android device.
  2. Choose the grade and open the first skill on the path.
  3. Answer the 10 training questions with the large number pad.
  4. Read the trick shown after any mistake.
  5. Try the 60-second mode, then come back tomorrow for the daily challenge.

Linking practice with lessons

If one skill stays difficult, read the matching page on the Mathovore site. The Grade 4 math, Grade 5 math and Grade 6 math pages go through the same topics in writing. There is no advertising in the app.

Frequently asked questions

What is Calcul Mental?

Calcul Mental is an Android app that trains mental arithmetic from Grade 1 (CP) to Grade 7 (5ème). It offers 76 skills, four ways to play, and a short trick after each mistake, in English and French.

How long should a session last?

A training session is 10 questions on one skill, which takes a few minutes. The app is designed for short daily use. The daily challenge has 15 questions, and the timed mode lasts 60 seconds.

What does the app teach besides facts?

After a wrong answer it shows the right result and a mental math tip, such as decomposing a number. This helps children learn methods they can reuse, not only memorize single answers.

Is it suitable for young children?

Yes. The app has a large number pad built in, big buttons, sounds and animations. Skills are arranged by grade, starting with complements to 10, doubles and halves, so early learners begin gently.
