Blocs Malins, a number block puzzle with digits

Blocs Malins is a number block puzzle for Android. Pieces are dropped on an 8 by 8 grid, and every block carries a digit. A full row or column explodes, and if its digits add up to a multiple of 10, the points are doubled.

It is aimed at players from Grade 3 (CE2) to adults. Without noticing it, the player adds digits in their head all game long. The game is published by the Maths PDF site and is available in English and French.

The problem: how to make mental addition feel natural

Adding a short column of digits quickly is a skill that supports everything else in math. Yet few students choose to practice it. Block puzzles are already familiar to most teenagers, and adding the digits is the extra step that turns a time-killer into mental training.

The sums are displayed along the edge of the grid to help aim, so the student learns to read them, then to plan ahead.

How the number block puzzle works

  • Drag pieces onto the 8 by 8 grid; a full row or column explodes
  • If the digits of a cleared line add up to a multiple of 10 (10, 20, 30), points are doubled
  • Clear lines in a row to raise a combo multiplier
  • Seven difficulty tiers, from extra-large pieces to falling stones, up to the Légende tier
  • No timer: the player thinks, adds in their head and enjoys the game

A session can last two minutes during a break or much longer in a long game.

Daily play and rewards

Each day, the daily challenge gives everyone the same sequence of pieces, so scores can be compared fairly. Weekly leagues pit you against 29 other players, from Bronze up to Diamond. There are 54 badges, some of them secret, and a day streak flame that streak freezes can protect.

A chest arrives every 15 lines and holds block themes (Neon, Ocean, Lava, Galaxy, solid Gold), avatars and bonuses. A profile stores a nickname, an avatar, statistics and progress on your account.

Who it is for

Students from Grade 3 (CE2) to Grade 12 (Terminale) can play, and so can parents. Younger players practice addition facts, and older ones enjoy planning the combos. It works as a short break between homework tasks: the maths is real, but the screen feels like play.

The listing states that the app is available in English and French.

There is a quiet strategy layer, too. Two moves that clear the same line may give very different scores, depending on whether the digits make a multiple of 10. A player learns to look ahead, to keep a few small digits in reserve and to avoid blocking the grid. Those habits, planning and estimating, are the same ones that help in algebra later on. Because the game has no timer, a student can take a moment to count before each placement.

Your first game

  1. Install Blocs Malins on your Android phone or tablet.
  2. Drag your first piece onto the grid.
  3. Fill a row and check the sum shown at the edge.
  4. Aim for a sum of 10, 20 or 30 to double the points.
  5. Come back tomorrow for the daily challenge.

If addition still feels slow, the Mathovore pages on Grade 2 math and Grade 3 math go through the basics again.

Frequently asked questions

What is Blocs Malins?

Blocs Malins is an Android number block puzzle. Digit blocks are placed on an 8 by 8 grid, a full line explodes, and a line whose digits add up to a multiple of 10 earns doubled points.

Is there a timer?

No. The listing says the game has no timer, so players can think and add digits in their head. A session fits a two-minute break as well as a long game.

What is the weekly league?

Each week, the player is placed with 29 other players and tries to climb from Bronze to Diamond. A daily challenge gives everyone the same pieces, so scores are comparable.

Which grades is it for?

The Maths PDF site presents it for players from Grade 3 (CE2) to adults. Younger children practice basic addition, while older players can plan combos and the doubling of points.
